Buzz, Buzz, Buzz!

The month of April was all about the Earth in Mrs. Vahle-Reck’s class at Coal City Elementary School. They observed the Solar Eclipse on April 8 and Earth Day on April 22.

To celebrate Earth Day, the students learned about bees and Mrs. Erhard, the  school librarian, helped find fiction and non-fiction books about bees for them to read.

“I found some great YouTube videos that helped us learn more about bees. One interesting fact we learned is that bees are attracted to blue, purple, and yellow flowers,” Vahle-Reck said. The students also planted flowers in those colors to take home.

“Hopefully the colorful flowers will attract the bees so they can do their work,” the teacher said.

To go along with learning about bees, the kids did a craft and writing activity on the topic of, “What would you do if you were a bee for a day?” They had to think about all the information  they learned and write about a fact they found interesting about bees.
